D’banj Credits Kanye West for Early Afrobeats Adoption.

Nigerian music star D’banj has credited Kanye West for playing a pivotal role in bringing Afrobeats to the global stage.
In a recent podcast interview, D’banj revealed that West’s genuine interest in African music led to him signing D’banj and his music partner Don Jazzy to his record label, Good Music.
“The first time I met Kanye West in Dubai, he told me that he had enquired about afrobeats from students in the university. So, he actually wanted to pick up the sound,” D’banj shared. “He was interested in the sound. That was what gave us [Don Jazzy and me] the deal and the opportunity to be signed to his record label [Good Music].”
West’s early embrace of Afrobeats, including his cameo appearance in the music video for D’banj’s 2012 hit “Oliver Twist,” helped pave the way for the genre’s global dominance.
