A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant for social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) after he failed to appear in court regarding a defamation lawsuit filed by gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna issued the warrant on March 13, 2025, following VDM’s absence despite being summoned earlier in the month. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the warrant, expressing frustration with what he perceived as a “media trial.”

The lawsuit stems from VDM’s online accusations against Chinwo, alleging her involvement in a contractual dispute and the misappropriation of funds related to her former record label. Chinwo provided evidence to the court, asserting that VDM’s claims were false and damaging to her reputation.

Chinwo’s legal team contends that VDM’s actions violate cybercrime laws and the penal code, seeking to hold him accountable for the alleged defamation.
