‘Shut up!’ – Kumchacha slams Asamoah Gyan over comment on Kantamanto Fire.

A war of words has erupted between popular Ghanaian pastor, Prophet Kumchacha, and former Black Stars player, Asamoah Gyan, following Gyan’s comments regarding the recent fire at the Kantamanto market. Gyan had suggested on social media that the fire may have been politically motivated, potentially orchestrated by either the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Gyan’s claims, made on January 2, 2025, sparked immediate controversy. He alleged that the NDC, for example, might have intentionally started the fire as a way to clear the area for a new development project without directly displacing the traders who operate there. This accusation implied a calculated and cynical political strategy.
Prophet Kumchacha has strongly condemned Gyan’s pronouncements. In a video circulating on social media, Kumchacha directly addressed Gyan, stating, “Asamoah, shut up! Stop what you are doing. How can you come on social media in a singlet and make such utterances? How can you make politics out of this issue? There is no sense in what you said online.”
Kumchacha’s rebuke focused on what he perceived as the inappropriateness of Gyan’s public comments, especially given the sensitive nature of the fire and its devastating impact on traders. He criticized Gyan for making political accusations without providing any evidence, suggesting that it was insensitive to politicize the tragedy.
Kumchacha further urged Gyan to apologize to the victims of the fire. He believes that Gyan’s comments have added insult to injury for those who have lost their livelihoods and that an apology is necessary to acknowledge the harm caused by his allegations. The incident has now escalated into a public dispute, highlighting the tension surrounding the Kantamanto fire and the ongoing political climate in Ghana.
