American rapper Meek Mill has expressed his desire to become a citizen of Ghana, citing America’s oppressive treatment of Black individuals as his reason. The Philadelphia-born rapper, who performed at the Afro Nation music festival in Ghana in December 2022, took to Twitter on March 4, 2024, to share his intentions, stating, “I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!”

Meek Mill’s visit to Ghana included a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House. Despite facing criticism for filming parts of a music video at the government building, the rapper has expressed his love for Ghana and apologized for any offense caused.

Throughout the period, Meek Mill has expressed his eagerness to return to Ghana and collaborate with local artists. Recently, he has been involved in a social media dispute regarding allegations in a lawsuit filed by a former employee of rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The suit reportedly implicated Meek Mill in gay sex escapades with Diddy, but the rapper has vehemently denied the accusations, suggesting a conspiracy to undermine his achievements as a Black American. Meek Mill’s initial visit to Ghana took place in December 2022.
