Nigerian music star Brymo has once again ignited online debate with his opinions on record labels and fellow Afrobeat artists.

Brymo, a renowned vocalist known for hits such as “Oleku” and “Ara,” made controversial remarks during a recent interview on the social media platform “Curiosity Made Me Ask.” When pressed about his preference for signing with industry titans Davido, Wizkid, or Burna Boy, Brymo responded with a dismissive tone: “Don’t worry, I will just go to hell. They need recording deals.” This is not the first time Brymo’s outspoken nature has stirred controversy; he has a history of courting criticism with his artistic choices, including album titles and music video appearances.

Despite his penchant for sparking debate, Brymo’s musical talent remains undeniable. Widely regarded as one of the finest vocalists in Nigeria, perhaps even Africa, Brymo is known for his self-assuredness. In the same interview, Brymo asserted that he was offered a substantial financial package in 2012 to revitalize his career, which he declined. He also elaborated on his departure from Chocolate City, a former label that housed A-list artists like MI Abaga and Ice Prince. Brymo attributed his exit to a lack of satisfaction with the results achieved by his music under the label’s guidance. He opted for independence to pursue a more purposeful direction with his creative output.

Brymo’s commentary on his fellow musicians wasn’t entirely negative. When questioned about Burna Boy’s mention of his name in a song, “Hustle make you no fall off like Brymo”, Brymo revealed he wouldn’t reciprocate the gesture.
