Stigmatization Of Africa: Danger In The Silence Of African Countries And Organizations In The Diaspora

It is commonplace for people of African descent in the diaspora; to experience various forms of stigmatization caused by misinformation in the media or educational system.

It is dangerous for people of African descent, countries and African organizations in the diaspora; not to speak up and stop the spread of these current lies, stigmatizing the continent with fake news about covid19 originating from Africa. European media such as these from Germany “Rheinpfalz – das virus aus afrika ist bei uns” translate to mean “Rheinpfalz – The virus from Africa is with us”. These lies can prompt life-threatening reactions to Africans.

Covid Omicron virus did not originate in African. It has also been detected in other continents. Why then are these headlines and the misrepresentation of African image in the media? Though the number of covid cases in the African continent; is far less than the number of infections and death recorded in other continents of the world. Why try to make Africa the representation of covid.

People of African descent should speak up, defend themselves; from people trying to assassinate their image and react before it is too late. Members of the far-right organizations and persons looking for reasons to hate black people; could pick up on this and see it as a reason to discriminate and attack people of African descent.
