Lil Nas X Sparks Controversy With Provocative ‘J Christ’ Music Video

Lil Nas X, known for his provocative content, continues to stir controversy with his latest music video, “J Christ.”

Released on Friday, the video depicts the rapper on a cross, simulating crucifixion.

Earlier this month, he teased the video on social media with an image of the crucifixion setup, alluding to “the man who had the greatest comeback of all time” in the caption.

In addition to the crucifixion scene, “J Christ” includes heavenly and hellish imagery reminiscent of Lil Nas X’s 2021 video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” The video also features celebrity doppelgangers, such as Mariah Carey, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West).

Lil Nas X, a Grammy winner, has faced criticism in the past for allegedly “mocking” Christianity, notably with his infamous unofficial “Satan” Nikes, which make an appearance in the new video. This controversy led to Nike suing the shoemakers for trademark infringement in 2021.

The “J Christ” video also incorporates biblical references, including a lavish sequence portraying Lil Nas X as Noah guiding animals into the ark ahead of a flood.
