New details have emerged regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad. During a coroner’s inquest on Wednesday, Dr. Richard Somiari, Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, provided an update on the autopsy process.

Somiari testified that the initial autopsy results are expected to be available within the next three to four weeks. He emphasized that these initial findings would be followed by further confirmation to definitively determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.

The inquest comes after Mohbad’s passing on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. The circumstances surrounding his death sparked controversy, leading the Lagos State Government to order a coroner’s inquiry.

Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi is presiding over the inquest, which began on October 13, 2023, at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.

Somiari further explained that the autopsy will explore a range of possibilities, including potential poisoning, given the lack of a previously identified cause of death. He assured the public that the samples collected for analysis are being securely stored and monitored, with established procedures in place for any samples sent abroad.
