The murder investigation of South African rapper AKA (Kiernan Forbes) and his friend Tibz Motsoane took a surprising turn. Court documents suggest a possible connection between the killings and prominent businessman Sydney Mfundo Gcaba.

Prosecutors allege Gcaba’s company transferred over 800,000 rands to suspect Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni just after the February 2023 shooting. Phone records show a call between them before the transfer. Gwabeni claims the money was for consulting work, but prosecutors doubt it.

The Gcaba family, known for their extensive business holdings, including a major taxi empire, hasn’t commented. Authorities are investigating Gcaba’s possible motive.
