Ghanaian Creatives Demand Removal of Danku and Gardiner from Film Authority.

A group of Ghanaian arts stakeholders, the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, has launched a petition calling on President John Dramani Mahama to remove Kafui Danku and James Gardiner from their leadership positions at the National Film Authority (NFA).

The petition argues that Danku, appointed Executive Secretary, and Gardiner, her Deputy, lack the necessary experience and expertise to lead the NFA effectively. “Neither Kafui Danku nor James Gardiner possesses the industry experience or expertise required to lead such a vital institution,” the petition states, citing their backgrounds in “low-budget productions and social media branding.”

The group contrasts the appointments with the previous leadership of Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, a “Harvard-trained industry leader,” and suggests alternative candidates with extensive film industry experience, including George Bosompin, Jim Awindor, and Akofa Edjeani Asiedu.

The petition highlights concerns that the current appointments signal a “departure from excellence” and urge the President to prioritize “qualified, visionary leadership” for the NFA.
