Tanzania’s creative sector has secured three nominations at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), showcasing the nation’s rising prominence in African entertainment. The nominations highlight the growing influence of Tanzanian filmmakers and their ability to produce content that resonates across the continent.

Kefa Igilo, a MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) graduate, leads the Tanzanian nominees with his reality show “Wa Milele,” which has been recognized in both the Best Indigenous Language, East Africa, and Best Unscripted Series categories.

Joining Igilo is acclaimed filmmaker Amil Shivji, whose film “The Empty Grave” has also been nominated for Best Indigenous Language – East Africa. Shivji’s nomination underscores his contribution to elevating Tanzanian cinema to a global audience. The AMVCAs, scheduled for May 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria, will celebrate the best of African film and television.
