Kenyan journalist Rukia Bulle has been awarded the prestigious 2024 BBC News Komla Dumor Award. The accolade, which recognizes outstanding journalistic talent from Africa, is named after the renowned Ghanaian broadcaster.

Bulle, currently working for Nation Media Group, has distinguished herself with her compelling human interest stories and in-depth news features. Her innovative approach to digital journalism and her dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices have earned her widespread recognition, including a spot on the list of Kenya’s 100 Most Influential Muslims.

As part of the award, Bulle will spend three months working with BBC News teams in London, gaining invaluable experience and mentorship. The Komla Dumor Award, established in 2015, aims to support and celebrate exceptional African journalists.

Expressing her gratitude, Bulle said the award is a validation of her work and a testament to the power of storytelling. Tarik Kafala, Acting Director of the BBC World Service, praised Bulle’s achievements and expressed excitement about supporting her career growth.

Bulle’s win underscores the wealth of journalistic talent in Africa and the vital role of platforms like the Komla Dumor Award in nurturing future generations of storytellers.
