Chronicles of a German Born African (Who grew up in Ghana and lives in Germany)

Chronicles of a German Born African (Who grew up in Ghana and lives in Germany)

Final Episode

Hi there, thank you! Thank you, thank you, and thank you, for following along these past few weeks. Your support means the world to me. Before we wrap up this series of chronicles, let me reintroduce myself. You might know me as Nesa, but my full name is Nelly Sarpong, and I’ve had the privilege of taking you on a journey through Chronicles of a German-Born African.

Now, I’d like to invite you to dive even deeper into these experiences into the rich tapestry of my life that has shaped the lessons I’ve shared. These stories, filled with the highs and lows of my journey, have been compiled into my memoir, The Tapestry of a German-Born Ghanaian. If I were to write articles about the story of my life, it would take ages, so I’ve woven them together in this book, where you can explore them at your own pace.

As more and more people read Chronicles of a German-Born African, I started receiving lots of questions, questions I just couldn’t fully answer in those short articles. This book is my way of responding to all those questions and sharing the deeper experiences and insights that shaped me.

This memoir is more than just a collection of lessons, it’s a heartfelt narrative that captures the essence of my life so far. As I began writing the articles that you’ve read in magazines across Germany, I realised there was more to say, more to preserve, and more to share. I wanted these stories to be accessible not just now, but for years to come. I wanted new arrivals in Germany, people who share similar experiences, to find comfort and guidance in my words. That’s when I knew I had to encapsulate everything into a book. Just like a time capsule, The Tapestry of a German-Born Ghanaian will stand the test of time, carrying these stories forward to everyone who needs it.

But this isn’t just a book of lessons, it’s a story. My story. A story that I believe many of you will resonate with a story of hope, of setbacks, of resilience, of joy and sorrow, of triumph, a true tapestry of life. Memoirs are often written by those in their twilight years, but at 32, I see life as a series of stages morning, afternoon, evening, and night. This memoir is about the morning of my life and my experiences. Will this be my last memoir? I highly doubt it. I plan to write one to capture the essence of each stage of my life as it unfolds.

In The Tapestry of a German-Born Ghanaian, you’ll walk with me through the album of my life from Luisenhospital in Aachen, where I was born, to the vibrant streets of Ghana, from Accra to Kumasi to Cape Coast. Then, you’ll fly with me back to Germany, exploring the bustling cities of Berlin, Frankfurt Oder, and Köln, to name just a few. Each page of this memoir is a snapshot, a moment in time, woven together to form the rich tapestry of my life.

Before you close the album that I’ve named The Tapestry of a German-Born Ghanaian, I hope you’ll find inspiration, hope, and resilience within its pages. I hope it leaves you believing that there’s nothing you can’t achieve if you set your mind to it and that the best chapters of your life are yet to come.
