Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has firmly denied circulating rumors claiming he impregnated Big Brother Naija reality star, Nengi Rebecca Hampson. The allegations, which spread rapidly across social media platforms on Monday, suggested that Nengi had recently welcomed a child allegedly fathered by the governor, who is rumored to have four wives.

Addressing the speculations, Nengi took to X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the claims. In a series of posts, she stated clearly, “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor,” refuting any connection to the governor regarding the allegations. Despite her public denial, the rumors have continued to trend online, fueling more speculation.

Reacting to the situation, the Director-General of New Media to the governor, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, condemned the reports in a Facebook post on Monday evening. He labeled the claims as baseless and false, emphasizing that Nengi has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. Oredipe criticized those behind the rumors, accusing them of attempting to distract from the events marking the governor’s 5th anniversary in office.

“Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary,” Oredipe wrote. “Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor. Nengi has come out on social media to debunk the lies. This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media.”
