Stonebwoy: "Ghanaian Negativity Hinders Our Growth".

Reggae and dancehall artist Stonebwoy has publicly voiced his concern regarding a perceived “negative mindset” prevalent among Ghanaians, arguing that it’s detrimental to the nation’s artistic growth.

He cited recent instances, such as his interaction with a Nigerian influencer and his brief encounter with Taylor Swift at the Grammys, where he felt Ghanaians responded with undue negativity. “It’s heartbreaking and [this negativity from Ghanaians] needs to be addressed because in as much as we can’t wash our dirty linens outside, it’s heartbreaking to realise that in 2025, there’s this level of mentality that is still surrounding us as Ghanaian people,” Stonebwoy stated.

He expressed frustration that such reactions, which he deems “uncalled for,” become the dominant narrative, hindering the potential for positive outcomes from such moments. “You go to the Grammys, you’re connecting with Taylor Swift on the whole carpet, ain’t nobody talking to her, I say hi, we vibe and there was a negative reception by some of the Ghanaian populace. It’s interesting that it becomes the popular narrative, which then destroys the whole quality of what we can churn out of such moments,” he lamented.

Stonebwoy believes this negativity discourages artists from seeking valuable opportunities and connections, ultimately stifling creativity and career advancement. He hopes for a fundamental shift in mindset, fostering a more supportive and encouraging environment for Ghanaian artists to thrive.
