Asake Drops Surprise Single, Addresses English Language Critics.

Asake Drops Surprise Single, Addresses English Language Critics.

Asake has kicked off the new year with a surprise single titled “Military.” The song, released exclusively on Audiomack, appears to be a direct response to critics who have questioned his English language proficiency and his use of Yoruba in his music.

In “Military,” Asake addresses these criticisms head-on, confidently asserting his artistic choices. “I just don’t feel great when speaking English,” he sings in Yoruba, emphasizing his comfort and authenticity in his native language.

The song, which samples 2Pac’s “Do For Love,” also boasts about his success and independence. Asake pays tribute to his mentor, Olamide, while asserting his own creative freedom, stating that he can release music whenever and however he chooses.

“Military” follows Asake’s successful 2024, which saw the release of his critically acclaimed album “Lungu Boy” and his first Grammy nomination. This latest release further solidifies his position as one of the most exciting and innovative artists in the Nigerian music scene.
