“Top Gun 3” Takes Flight In Early Development With Tom Cruise At Paramount

Tom Cruise is preparing for a return in the third installment of “Top Gun.”
A new script for the high-energy aviation movie series is currently in the early stages of development at Paramount, according to a source close to the project. While no formal agreements are in place yet, the plan is to bring back the original film’s producers — Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and director Joseph Kosinski.
Considering the sequel’s connection to “Top Gun: Maverick” from 2022, it’s likely that Cruise’s younger co-stars, Miles Teller and Glen Powell, may also make a return. The script is still undergoing revisions, with writer Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote “Top Gun: Maverick,” working on the first draft.
Paramount has chosen not to comment on the news, and representatives for Cruise have not responded to media requests for a statement. The decision to create another sequel is not unexpected, given the massive success of “Top Gun: Maverick,” which became Cruise’s most financially successful film, grossing nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and earning six Oscar nominations.
This news follows recent reports that Cruise has signed a non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to develop and produce theatrical films.
