Ugandan Rapper Gravity Omutujju Calls on Bobi Wine to Control Supporters.
Ugandan rapper Gereson Wabuyi, known as Gravity Omutujju, has urged Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, to take charge of his supporters. Omutujju, who is also a political figure as the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is facing criticism from Omutujju for not intervening when his supporters targeted the rapper’s mother. Omutujju’s mother recently passed away from health complications related to high blood pressure and diabetes.
“It’s fine for fans to critique my music, but if someone’s parent is suffering, it’s your duty to encourage your followers to lessen their attacks, especially if you have the power to influence them,” Omutujju said. He expressed disappointment in what he saw as Bobi Wine’s inaction, emphasizing that leaders should protect those caught in the crossfire of public disputes.
Omutujju’s statements have stirred debate, with some viewing his remarks as politically motivated. Some critics believe his stance benefits President Museveni’s administration, noting that Museveni hasn’t obstructed Omutujju’s actions. The rapper’s reputation has taken a hit, and audiences boycotted his concerts, including a September event that he described as deeply disheartening.
Reflecting on the impact, Omutujju shared, “I can never forget the 7th of September… That show was a huge flop… It almost sent me into depression.” The tension between him and Bobi Wine seems likely to continue, particularly after Bobi’s recent announcement to run for president again in 2026. Observers now question how this rivalry might shape the political and music landscapes in Uganda.
