Ghanaian Music Legend Teddy Osei of Osibisa Passes Away at 88.
Legendary Ghanaian saxophonist and co-founder of the groundbreaking Afro-rock band Osibisa, Teddy Osei, has passed away at the age of 88.
Osei, who died in London on Tuesday, played a pivotal role in shaping the unique sound of Osibisa, fusing African rhythms with rock, soul, and jazz to captivate audiences worldwide.
“Teddy Osei was not only a pioneer in the world of music but also a cultural ambassador who helped bridge the gap between African rhythms and global sounds,” said Musiga President Bessa Simons.
Osei’s influence extended beyond his musical achievements. “Without Osibisa, there would have been no Fela Kuti,” he once stated, acknowledging his band’s significant impact on the evolution of African music. “Osibisa gave Africans confidence in their own music,” he added, reflecting on his greatest achievement.
The loss of Teddy Osei marks the end of an era, but his groundbreaking music and enduring legacy will continue to inspire generations of musicians to come.
