The Working Woman Diaries (Adeola)

The Working Woman Diaries (Adeola)

Adeola”

Being the HR queen of my firm isn’t for the faint-hearted. People think it’s just emails and memos, but try telling someone they’re being put on a performance improvement plan or worse, that their beloved work-husband is being let go. I’m used to being the villain. Someone has to be the bad guy, and guess what? I wear it like a badge of honor.

But this year? Oh, this year has been a different kind of beast. Long hours, endless drama, and colleagues acting like their leave requests are written in stone tablets handed down by the gods. Add that to the new hires who can’t tell the difference between “cc” and “bcc,” and I’ve earned every ounce of the stress wrinkles I’m trying to banish with retinol.

The funny thing is, everyone keeps asking me why I’m not “settled down” yet. As if I have time to manage someone else’s emotions after babysitting an entire company’s workforce. The truth is, I’m not even interested. What’s a man going to bring to my life right now? Complaints about my working hours? Texts about why I didn’t reply fast enough? Please.

But let me tell you what I am interested in: Detty December. Oh, I’ve been counting down to the end-of-year Christmas party since July. It’s the one night where I can stop being the “strict HR lady” and become the certified bad girl on the dance floor. The plan? Party, flirt; and cause just enough chaos to make people forget the terror I put them through with those 9 a.m. disciplinary meetings.

I’ve already picked my outfit a dress so tight it’ll make the CEO look twice and rethink his life decisions. And as for my colleagues? Let’s just say a little harmless flirting never hurt anyone. That IT guy with the beard? He’s first on my list. The intern with the dimples? He’s getting a wink. Even the head of accounting, Mr. Spreadsheet himself, might get a taste of my charm. I’m going all in.

This year has been stressful, and I deserve to let loose. No romance, no strings, just good vibes and enough tequila to make me forget the number of warning letters I’ve issued. Adeola isn’t here to settle down she’s here to steal the spotlight, dance like nobody’s watching, and remind everyone that HR can slay just as hard as it slays careers.
So, here’s to a Detty December. Because after a year of being the bad guy, it’s time to be the life of the party.
