Squid Game” Actor Found Guilty of Sexual Misconduct
South Korean actor Oh Yeong-su, known for his role in the hit Netflix series “Squid Game,” was found guilty of sexual misconduct by a local court on Friday.
The 79-year-old actor, who earned a Golden Globe in 2022 for his performance in “Squid Game,” was accused of assaulting a woman in 2017.
He received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and is required to attend mandatory sexual violence education classes.
According to the judge, the victim’s statements and records concerning the assault were deemed credible and consistent with a genuine experience.
Oh was indicted in 2022 for the alleged assault, which reportedly occurred twice in a rural area during a theatre performance in 2017.
This conviction follows a concerning trend in the South Korean entertainment industry, where several figures, including the late filmmaker Kim Ki-duk and actor Cho Jae-hyun, have faced similar accusations.
