Chidimma Adetshina, a Nigerian beauty queen, has created history by becoming the first Nigerian to be named the first runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant. The 23-year-old competed against over 120 contestants from around the globe and secured Nigeria’s best-ever performance in the prestigious competition.

Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2023 at the 73rd edition of the pageant. Mexico’s María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa, Thailand, and Venezuela rounded out the top five.

Despite facing online harassment and bullying due to her Nigerian heritage, Adetshina persevered and made a significant impact on the global stage. Her achievement shines a light on the importance of inclusivity and acceptance.
