Nigerians in Germany gathered on Saturday 21st September 2024 for the wake-keep of George Ibeka, a prominent member and one of the founders of Nigerian Community Berlin (NCB), who passed on in Berlin on the 7th of August 2024, though a few individuals who are friends of George and also members of NCB attended; but Nigerian Community as an organization wasn’t present, as the role calls of the various organization that were represented was made, the rot that NCB as tuned into reared its ugly head at the wake-keep.

This is not the first time that Afrobizgermany has pointed out the corruption and destruction of Nigeria Community Berlin (NCB), by the incompetent leadership that has over-stayed its tenure, but selfishly held the organization down by not carrying out its duties and yet refused to conduct an election to usher in new leaders, the organization is none functional for some years now, but the so-called president and his cabinet members would proudly parade themselves, whenever a politician from Nigeria is visiting Berlin, seeking to shake hands and personal business opportunity with the visiting politician, NCB is as good as dead, the organization has not had a meeting of its members for almost three years.

It is disheartening that NCB which is supposed to be the umbrella organization for Nigerians in Berlin, totally failed in its obligation and duty to its citizens, which includes the loss of its base “Nigerian House” in Kreuzberg Berlin, the leadership also dropped the ball during the influx of Nigerian students displaced as a result of the Ukraine and Russian war, while other organizations took action and played their part in the service of the refugees, the president of NCB instead was blaming the Nigerian Embassy after we reached out to him, there are various times and ways that NCB could have been very useful to Nigerians, but corrupt and selfish leadership stood in the way of duty.

Nigeria Community Germany (NCG) cannot absolve itself from the failure of Nigeria Community Berlin (NCB), as NCG is aware of the corruption and disintegration of NCB; there are members representing NCB and they are in leadership positions in NCG, but yet they are not been questioned about the situation of a very important chapter of the Nigeria Community Germany (NCG), Berlin is the capital of Germany and home to the Nigerian Embassy, where Nigerians visit often for various reasons, and this makes NCB a very needed chapter of NCG.

Nigerians in Germany need to react and take back its organization, as there are lots of important benefits of having a functioning and corruption-free Nigeria Community Berlin (NCB), it is shameful that even the death of George Ebeka one of the founders of NCB, is not enough reason for the leaders to do the right thing and pay homage when it is due.
