Efia Odo Apologizes to Stonebwoy Over TGMA Remarks.
In a heartfelt gesture, Ghanaian socialite and actress Efia Odo has publicly apologized to renowned artiste Stonebwoy for derogatory comments she made during the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) debates. The incident, which sparked widespread discussions on social media, saw Efia Odo call Stonebwoy “old” and suggest he step aside for younger talents.
In May 2024, as the TGMA Artiste of the Year Award discussions heated up online, Efia Odo, a passionate supporter of King Promise, voiced her opinion that Stonebwoy should allow younger artists like King Promise to shine. Her remarks were seen as dismissive of Stonebwoy’s contributions and sparked a backlash from his fans and the wider music community.
Speaking on the July 27, 2024, edition of ‘United Showbiz’, Efia Odo admitted her mistake. She explained that her comments were fueled by her intense support for King Promise and regretted her choice of words. “In the moment, for me, when I’m a fan of someone, I go hard for the person. What I said to Stonebwoy, calling him an old man and all that was wrong. I admit it,” she told MzGee, the show’s host.
Efia Odo also acknowledged Stonebwoy’s significant contributions to the music industry, placing him among Ghana’s top artistes. She expressed her belief that Stonebwoy deserves recognition beyond the Ghana Music Awards, suggesting he aim for international accolades like the Grammys. “What I wanted to really say is that I see you to be bigger than Ghana Music Awards. I see you to be bigger than the platforms they’re giving you,” she clarified.
Concluding her statement, Efia Odo took full responsibility for her actions and apologized for letting her emotions get the better of her while defending King Promise. Her apology was seen as a step towards mending the rift caused by her earlier comments and acknowledging Stonebwoy’s enduring legacy in the music industry.
