Afrobeats Stars Don Jazzy and Wizkid End Social Media Spat.
Following a public spat on social media, Nigerian music heavyweights Don Jazzy and Wizkid seem to have called a truce. The reconciliation signs emerged after Wizkid offered his support to Ayra Starr, a rising star signed by Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records label.
The brief social media tension began when Wizkid appeared to take a jab at Don Jazzy. This came after a rapper signed to Mavin Records, Ladipoe, seemingly mocked Afrobeats artists on Twitter. A fan alerted Wizkid to Ladipoe’s post, and Wizkid’s response sparked the controversy. He suggested he wouldn’t “chat” with anyone signed to an “influencer,” leading many to believe he was referring to Don Jazzy. The comment ignited social media with celebrities criticizing Wizkid for disrespecting the veteran music executive. Don Jazzy further fueled speculation by unfollowing Wizkid on Instagram.
However, tensions appear to have cooled after Wizkid publicly endorsed Ayra Starr’s new album, “The Year I Turned 21.” Don Jazzy responded positively to Wizkid’s endorsement, suggesting a potential reconciliation between the two music giants.
