Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Dominic shed light on her reasons for taking a break from the film industry in a recent speech at the 2024 Women of Valour Conference.

Dominic revealed that in 2002, she faced personal struggles that led her to leave Nigeria and pursue a fresh start in London. During this challenging time, she made the decision to step away from acting altogether.

“It was a very dark period in my life,” Dominic shared. “I needed to get out of that space for a while.”

While in London, facing the need to financially support herself, Dominic took on a job as a caregiver for adults with special needs.

“Some might see this as a step down, but I don’t,” she explained. “Taking care of others brought me a sense of purpose and joy during a time when I needed it most.”

Dominic’s experience highlights the importance of prioritizing mental well-being and taking breaks when needed, even for those in the demanding world of entertainment.
