Jess Glyne Shares How She No Longer Loved Music After Transphobic Controversy
Jess Glynne, the chart-topping singer, has candidly shared her struggles in the music industry, revealing a period of deep unhappiness that led her to question her return after facing death threats and backlash.
Following a demanding 2019 world tour that left her hospitalized due to exhaustion, coupled with the deaths of her grandmother and friend, Glynne expressed fear about returning to the studio.
In 2021, she faced accusations of transphobia, prompting her to delete her social media accounts in response to the aggressive backlash. Glynne, who apologized for her remarks, described feeling attacked despite intending to celebrate a community she loves.
Reflecting on her hiatus from music, the seven-time UK number-one artist disclosed her fluctuating relationship with the music industry, citing a sense of restriction and external control. After signing with Jay Z’s Roc Nation in 2022, she emphasized the newfound freedom to express herself without constraints.
In addition to her musical journey, Glynne opened up about her relationships, stating she has never hidden her identity and has been in relationships with both men and women. As she prepares to release her first single in five years, titled “Enough,” and finalizes her third album, Glynne aims for her music to narrate a story of vulnerability, power, bravery, and unapologetic self-expression.
