Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about losing a movie role after declining a director’s inappropriate request to kiss him during an audition. Oboli shared her experience in an interview on the Glasshouse Show with comedian AY.

The actress, who had returned to Nigeria after taking time off to raise her children abroad, explained that the incident occurred during one of her auditions. She was surprised when the director asked her to kiss him and questioned why such a request was made outside of a scene on set.

According to Oboli, the director’s justification for the kiss was simply, “I just want to see.” Standing her ground, she refused, explaining that it made no sense for her to kiss the director in that context. Despite her professionalism, the decision not to comply cost her the role.

Reflecting on the situation, Oboli revealed that she ultimately traveled back home without securing the part she had auditioned for, all because she stood by her principles. The actress’s account sheds light on the uncomfortable dynamics women in the entertainment industry sometimes face.
