Ghanaian broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere has broken her silence after a private video featuring her surfaced online. In a statement, Amihere apologized for the incident and the distress it caused her family, employers, and colleagues.

The leaked video, which sparked social media controversy earlier in April, shows Amihere with another person. Amihere confirmed the video was filmed five years ago and expressed regret for not anticipating her future standing in the community.

Beyond the initial shock, Amihere revealed the leak followed “five months of threats and extortion.” She took the matter to the police, and according to her statement, authorities have made arrests in connection with the crime.

Public reaction to the video has been divided. While some have criticized Amihere’s actions in the video, others have expressed support and condemned the extortion attempt. Amihere’s employer, EIB Network, is currently conducting an independent investigation. Amihere has been absent from television since the controversy erupted.
