Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has sparked conversation by asserting that women already dominate the entertainment industry, even as they continue fighting for equality. He made the statement during his appearance on TVC’s “Your View,” where the panel discussed women’s roles and opportunities in the Nigerian entertainment scene.

Bovi pointed out that despite ongoing efforts for gender equality, women may not realize how much power they already wield in the industry. “Women need to understand that in areas where they are fighting for equality, sometimes they may have conquered but because they are used to fighting, they don’t know that they’ve won,” he explained.

Highlighting key figures, Bovi emphasized how women have shaped the industry for over a decade. He cited top names such as Funke Akindele and Mo Abudu, who have consistently delivered box-office hits. Bovi also mentioned prominent producers and directors like Bolanle Austin-Peters, Jade Osiberu, and Kemi Adetiba, crediting them with leading the entertainment sector.

Reflecting on the current landscape, he added, “The biggest film festival is run by Chioma Ude, and women like Omoni Oboli, Uche Jombo, and Genevieve Nnaji continue to influence the industry.” These women, according to Bovi, have cemented their leadership and creative control, leaving a lasting impact on Nollywood and beyond.

In addressing issues of sexual harassment faced by young actresses, Bovi stressed that the women who already run the industry should be approached for solutions. He urged women to recognize their strength and influence, concluding, “You own the industry.”
