Rwandan Minister of State for Youth and Arts, Sandrine Umutoni, has emphasized the importance of greater collaboration within the African film industry. Speaking at the second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit in Accra, Ghana, Umutoni highlighted Africa’s rich history of storytelling and the challenges faced by African filmmakers.

She called for the establishment of systematic co-production treaties between African nations to address these challenges and promote sustainable growth. Umutoni also urged stakeholders to support emerging talents through better access to funding and dedicated African film funds.

The minister commended the new wave of young African creators who are using digital platforms and exploring new technologies, contributing to the continent’s creative economy. She encouraged participants to commit to building a stronger, more inclusive African film industry that reflects the diversity and complexity of the continent.
