The article, while acknowledging the contributions of pioneers like Reggie Rockstone, Mzbel, and Obrafour, also highlighted newer artists such as Black Sherif and King Paluta for their role in elevating Ghanaian music internationally.

Stonebwoy, however, took issue with the inclusion of Black Sherif and King Paluta in the context of 90s hiplife, asserting that they had not yet emerged on the scene at that time. He defended his stance in an interview, clarifying that he has no personal animosity towards the mentioned artists but believes they do not belong in a discussion centered around the origins of hiplife.
