Nigerian doctor and visual artist, Dr. Fola David, has shattered the previous record for the world’s larest painting by an individual. On the fourth day of his ambitious endeavor, David exceeded the prior record of 629.98 square meters held by India’s Ravi Soni, and remains committed to his ultimate target of creating a 1000 square meter masterpiece.

David announced the achievement on Instagram, sharing his excitement and determination. “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 p.m., we broke the current record of 629.98 square meters, but we are not yet done! The goal is to get over 1000 square meters of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square meters. Let’s Go!” he wrote.

Throughout the record attempt, notable figures and celebrities have visited David at Onikan Stadium in Lagos to show their support. Among them was Hilda Baci, a famous Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder, who brought food and supplies to sustain David’s marathon painting session.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi also made an appearance, personally commending Dr. David for his impressive dedication. Additionally, the University of Lagos, David’s alma mater, honored him with an Award of Honour and Merit, presented by Professor Olufemi Fasanmade and Dr. Olayinka Martins.

David’s artwork, titled “Unity in Diversity,” aims to depict a map of Nigeria showcasing the country’s varied tribes through their distinct attire, languages, art, and culture. The record-breaking attempt, which began on July 16, is ongoing and is set to conclude on July 21.
