Veteran Ghanaian filmmaker Socrate Safo is calling for a major shakeup in the country’s movie industry, citing a lack of proper training as a key obstacle to its growth. Safo, speaking on Accra-based radio station 3FM, expressed concern that many aspiring filmmakers enter the field fueled by passion alone, but without a strong understanding of the industry’s intricacies. This, according to Safo, hinders their ability to navigate the competitive landscape and produce high-quality films.

To address this issue, Safo proposes implementing structured training programs that cover the various aspects of filmmaking. He emphasizes the importance of equipping aspiring filmmakers with a well-rounded skillset, encompassing areas like scriptwriting, directing, production, marketing, and distribution. Safo believes that such programs would empower Ghanaian filmmakers to create movies that can compete on the global stage and elevate the overall industry.
