Nigerian singer Tems has revealed a serious illness, which she did not specify, forced her to delay her highly-anticipated debut album. The Grammy-winning artist, who rose to global fame with her feature on Wizkid’s smash hit “Essence,” originally planned a 2021 release for the album.

Unexpected health issues resulted in surgery and a lengthy recovery period, pushing back the album. During this time, Tems released her EP “If Orange Was a Place” to hold fans over.

Tems describes her new music, including the upcoming album, as heavily influenced by her experience battling illness. She channels this perseverance into a powerful “warrior” spirit within her music.

“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” Tems said. “Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough.”

Fans can finally rejoice as Tems’ debut album “Born In The Wild” arrives on June 7th. The release coincides with the launch of her first headline world tour, marking a triumphant return for the talented singer.
