Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie steps in to extinguish rumors of a brewing clash with Afrobeats titans Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. The controversy sparked after his latest song, “Brag,” mentioned his extended presence in the industry compared to the Nigerian superstars. This seemingly harmless reference morphed into a heated exchange of diss tracks, with Dremo (formerly signed to Davido’s label) and Sarkodie’s affiliate Lyrical Joe going back and forth.

Sarkodie wasted no time in quashing the rumors. In a recent interview with RODE, he offered clarification on the lyrics, stressing they were solely meant to acknowledge his experience in the music scene. Sarkodie further emphasized his admiration for Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, showering them with accolades: “These are incredible, amazing artists.” He elaborated on his choice of reference points, stating, “If I wanted to throw jabs, it would be at rappers. They [Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy] are not rappers. Everyone knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sherif, Asake, and Davido. It’s true, I’ve been around since before they all came on the scene. It’s simply a testament to my longevity, not a dis.”
