Olaf Scholz SPD Party Candidate For German Chancellor “Know Your Candidate”

Sunday 26th September 2021 is the set date for German political election this year, this is the Know Your Candidte segment of our blog, we source this information from the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) website for our dear readers.

Olaf Scholz

Dear Voter,

Germany is only the successful country it is today because so many people have helped it along the way. With their ideas, their courage, hard work and also their experiences – which they may have brought with them from another part of the world entirely. We belong together. Cultural richness and diversity make our country one worth living in. And there’s one thing I’m sure of: Together, we can achieve even more. With respect for each other and for the contribution that each and every person makes to our diverse society.

This respect is important to me. It’s about how we interact and live with each other. It’s about politics that consistently opposes any form of discrimination. It’s also about good wages, a stable pension, affordable housing, and more support for families. And of course, it’s about a good future for our children and grandchildren: good schools, secure work later on, a healthy environment to live in.

Let’s make our country even better – together! With respect and a strong sense of community.

That’s why I want to become Chancellor. And why I’m asking you to put your trust in me.

Warm regards,
Olaf Scholz.

                   WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE

SECURE AND WELL-PAID WORK

If you work hard all day, you deserve a decent wage for it. For example, all those who care for our sick and elderly, who look after our children, deliver our parcels or ensure that the shelves in the supermarket are filled. Work has dignity and value. That’s why we will quickly raise the minimum wage to 12 Euro per hour.
It must not be any less – but it could of course be more. Many more employees should therefore be paid in line with good collective agreements. Good money for good work. That’s what it’s all about.

The SPD is the party that stands for secure work. Firstly, that means safety in the workplace: Working shouldn’t make you sick. Next, we want to make employment contracts as permanent as possible, by limiting the option for temporary employment contracts. We also want to give everyone the opportunity for further development or a fresh start in life, with a right to further education and qualification.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

We need many more homes that are affordable for everyone. There’s only one way to do it: build, build, build. That’s why we want 400,000 new homes every year. Of these, 100,000 will be publicly funded, benefiting lower-income families. The result: more affordable housing for all. And until we have achieved that, we will rein in high rent increases with legislation – anywhere it’s needed.

MORE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

We want every child and young person to be able to pursue their own dreams for the future – without some having it harder than others. That’s why we’ll introduce a new child benefit: more money for those families who need it. Every young person will be guaranteed a traineeship. And there will be better federal student support for those who wish to study. Because all our children have a right to the best start in life – no exceptions.

STABLE PENSION

We want security for life in retirement. That’s why we developed the basic pension, for example. We will also ensure that the pension level remains stable. We will retain the current retirement age. Nobody should have to work longer to receive a good pension. A stable pension for security in retirement: something everyone should be able to rely on.

CITIZEN’S INCOME

With the new citizen’s income, we’re creating the foundation for a welfare state that is citizen-centred and offers stability and support. We will replace Hartz IV with a system of supports that focuses more on assisting and supporting career prospects.

THE OPPORTUNITIES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

We must do even more for climate protection – so that our children and grandchildren still have a world they can live well in. It’s a big challenge. But also a big opportunity. Because a modern, climate-friendly economy will provide lots of good, secure jobs. For example, in the production and development of clean cars.

OLAF SCHOLZ. THE CAN-DO CHANCELLOR.

Olaf Scholz has the experience our country needs. He successfully led a government in Hamburg, improved short-time workers pay as Minister of Labour during the financial crisis of the previous decade, saving millions of jobs in the process – and as Minister of Finance has brought us safely through the coronavirus pandemic.

Olaf Scholz has a plan for a good future. The others don’t. The Greens want climate protection to become more expensive for everyone. And the CDU’s priority is cutting taxes for companies and high earners, but they refuse to say how it will be financed. Our country needs a chancellor with courage and ideas. Not just wishing for something, but getting it done too. Olaf Scholz.
