Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has taken aim at South African comedian Trevor Noah after a video surfaced of Noah joking about the assassination of American political activist Charlie Kirk.

The clip, recorded at New York’s Comedy Cellar, quickly went viral after Noah suggested that U.S. comedians were too afraid to address Kirk’s death.

“Here [in the U.S.], comedians are sh themselves. ‘Don’t say anything about Charlie Kirk.’ I wasn’t going to say anything. ‘Yeah, but don’t say anything.’ I wasn’t going to say anything. ‘There’s nothing funny about it.’ Now you’ve tested me,” Noah said during his set.

“The guy was shot while defending guns… as a human, you have to admit that it is an incongruous, funny thing that happened,” he added, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd.

The joke sparked outrage online, with Musk among those condemning the comedian. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote:

“Trevor was lauded for being a libtard cuck for so long that he hasn’t realised that he stopped being funny. The guy actually has talent but needs to get the woke virus out of his brain.”

The term “woke virus” has become a common phrase among critics of progressive ideologies. Musk’s remark fueled further debate, with both supporters and detractors flooding the comments section.

One user wrote, “The woke virus takes the good potential away from so many,” while another added, “Situationally, his comment was guarded and funny.”

However, others criticized Noah’s joke as insensitive. One commenter described it as “deceptive and misdirected,” claiming it reflected poor comedic judgment.

This isn’t the first public clash between the two. Earlier this year, Noah criticized Musk on his “What Now?” podcast, questioning his business tactics and calling him a possible “con artist.”

“He is supremely talented at finding the right lever to pull,” Noah said, alleging that Musk often aligns himself with people unhappy with existing rules to “break things and disrupt systems.”
