“We Tried, But It’s Not Working” Peter Okoye Opens Up on Second P-Square Split.

In a heartfelt revelation during a recent interview on Cool FM, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has finally shed light on the reasons behind P-Square’s second breakup, admitting that the duo’s attempt at maintaining their legendary partnership simply “wasn’t working.”
“There’s a joy that comes with going solo,” he confessed. “Please respect our decisions. We’ve tried it, it’s not working.”
Peter’s comments come after months of speculation surrounding the future of P-Square, following his twin brother Paul Okoye (Rudeboy)’s confirmation last year that the iconic group had once again disbanded.
P-Square first split in 2016, sending shockwaves through the Nigerian music scene. The rift, initially attributed to family and management disputes, led to both brothers launching solo careers.
In 2021, they reunited amid excitement from fans worldwide, even releasing joint performances and hinting at new projects. However, the reunion was short-lived. By August 2024, Paul confirmed they had gone their separate ways again and now Peter has provided clarity.
On social media, reactions have been mixed some fans expressing disappointment, others offering support and understanding.
“We grew up with P-Square. It hurts, but maybe it’s for the best,” one fan posted on X.
“As long as both are at peace and making music, I’m okay with it. Let them thrive individually,” another wrote.
Peter, under the alias Mr P, has since carved out a unique lane for himself, exploring Afrobeats, R&B, and dance-oriented records with a vibrant stage presence. Likewise, Paul, as Rudeboy, has gained praise for his consistent Afro-reggae and emotional storytelling in his music.
Both brothers have proven capable of standing tall alone but their chemistry as a duo remains etched in Afropop history.
When asked about the possibility of another reunion in the future, Peter didn’t give any assurances, but his tone hinted at finality at least for now.
